But by the time we got to ( A Few Small Repairs) we just felt like we know what we’re doing, we know we do good stuff, we’re just going to make the best record we can and not worry about what radio would play or anything like that. “What we did know was that we weren’t going to try to get a hit, because on the previous three records the record company had been gunning for that and would reproduce a song or two on each record to try to address whatever was going on (commercially) at the time. “The surprise was obviously that we got a hit out of it,” Colvin recalls. And that success was the last thing she and producer John Leventhal expected when they were making it. 39 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum, and it vaulted Colvin to headliner status as a performer.
Thanks to “Sunny Came Home,” A Few Small Repairs was far and away Colvin’s most successful album.
